The Story Behind Studio 314: Studio 314 is more than a photography studio. We're photographers, musicians, and artists based in Akron, Ohio. Long before we ever picked up cameras professionally, we were playing in a metal band together over fifteen years ago. Countless practices, late night shows, road trips, and endless conversations built the friendship that eventually became Studio 314. Somewhere along the way, the number 314 became an inside joke within our group. We never knew why, but it always seemed to appear at random; phone numbers, receipts, addresses, timestamps, ticket numbers. One of us would notice it, point it out, everyone would laugh, and we'd move on. It didn't mean anything, but somehow it meant everything because it was ours. As the years passed, life happened. Careers changed, families grew, and like so many close knit friend groups, everyone slowly found themselves on different paths. But one friend never stopped pointing out 314 whenever it appeared. That friend was Nigel Plumley. Nigel passed away in 2025, and after losing him, those little moments started to carry a different kind of meaning. What had once been a running joke became a reminder of years of friendship, shared experiences, and the people who leave a lasting mark on your life. When it came time to name the studio, we couldn't decide. We narrowed it down to five or six names and threw them into one of those random spinning-wheel apps, figuring we'd let chance make the final call. The wheel landed on Studio 314. Maybe it was coincidence. Maybe it was just another random appearance of a number we'd been seeing for years. Either way, we all smiled. It felt right, and there wasn't much left to debate. Today, Studio 314 is our way of carrying that story forward. It's a reminder that the smallest things like a number, an inside joke, a memory shared between friends can become some of the most meaningful parts of your life. Our studio reflects who we are. Hidden inside an old industrial building in Akron, complete with a freight elevator and decades of character, we've built a space with a mood all its own. Professional lighting, haze and fog, deep shadows, and a dark cinematic atmosphere make it feel more like stepping onto a movie set than walking into a traditional photography studio. We're musicians at heart, artists by nature, and photographers by profession. Whether we're creating portraits, album artwork, branding imagery, or something entirely different, we want every session to feel creative, collaborative, and memorable. Studio 314 isn't just a name on the door. It's a story about friendship, creativity, and the little things that somehow keep finding their way back to you.
